A Trip Down South - Around England Road Trip - PART 3

After four days in Cornwall has passed we headed east along the coast and stopped in Axminster for a cream tea in River Cottage Canteen. After a refreshments a busy afternoon was waiting for us, as we had visits to Stonehenge and Avebury planned. When we arrived at Stonehenge site and got past the gates we walked around it. Even after 5000 years and not at it's best Stonehenge is very impressive.

Right after we visited Stonehenge we headed towards the ancient stone circle of Avebury. If you look in terms of size, then Avebury circle will probably be one of the biggest ever built in Britain. Built long before Stonehenge it was about 500 meters across. Nowadays circle contains most of the Aveburys old part within itself. Although much older and maybe scientificly more significant - Avebury is not as well known as Stonehenge, but definetely worth visiting.

After a walk around a circle (which is about a kilometer walk) we spent another night in the Cotswolds and headed towards our next stop - Cambridge.

Cambridge is an absolutely lovely and charming place. Home to many students for centuries it has kept it's vintage feel. Full of bikes going along the empty streets (cars are not allowed in the city centre) and boats punting along the river cam in the very old fasioned way. All as the time had stopped here at least a century ago. What a shame our student times are long gone...

We were very sorry to leave Cambridge, but our time was running short and we headed for the nearest campsite. The next morning welcomed us with another sunny weather and we were very happy to continue our journey up to the North Norfolk. The scenery changed completely and the shoreline reminded us of the Baltic Sea. Another charming, but very different region of England with cottages built with pebbles and a huge number of windmills. Windmill hunt was acctually one of our goals, so we chose to take a route along the north coast of Norfolk.

After a long and exciting day we stopped for one of our last nights on a small camping site.

And that was it - just one small stop in the Norfolk Lavender Centre (did you know, they have a lavender fields in Norfolk? Me neither!) and we headed back in our last long drive home.

And that was generally the end of our journey. We headed home stopping just once more for the night in Derbyshire Dales very close to the Denby factory, but unfortunatelly we weren't able to visit it, as there are no tours on Fridays(and it was a Friday).

We brought back lots of photographs, some souveniers and above all wonderfull memories, which we will never forget! I hope you enjoyed this small report and you liked the photographs. If you would like to see more visit my website at http://www.grzegorzsemeniuk.com/ - I will post some more photographs there soon.
